French regulator blocks Cbet and Stake websites

French regulator L’Autorité Nationale des Jeux (ANJ) has blocked access to Stake.com and Cbet.gg.

The regulator appealed to the President of the Paris Court to remove the “aggressive gaming sites”, while the court then ordered French internet access providers to block access.

Online casino sites are banned in France due to the possible risks of addiction, and reservations around operators not offering appropriate measures to protect players and their personal data.

To combat illegal operators, the ANJ says it starts off by noting any illegal content and then asking the operator to take down its French site.

If the site remains online, the ANJ refers to the President of the Judicial Tribunal of Paris, who can pass an injunction to block the illegal site.

Last year, 281 domain names were blocked, with 125 of these being illegal sites.

Whereas the Cbet and Stake sites had around 560,000 visits recorded in France in June 2021 alone.

By 20 May, the President of the Paris Court ordered internet service providers to prevent access to the Cbet sites, since they were offering unauthorised games, one of which is known as “JETX.”

Following the request, on 13 July, the President of the Judicial Tribunal of Paris ordered the main French internet service providers to also prevent access to the Stake websites.

The ANJ said it “wishes to draw the public's attention to the dangerousness of these illegal sites which record particularly high audiences. This is the reason why it decided, for the first time, to give an echo to these judgements.”
